At each party, we present a variety of word puzzles and word games. Broadly speaking, they fit into the following categories:
If you would like to contribute a game or puzzle, please consult the Planners' Guidelines and e-mail program@equinoxparty.org.
- Name Tags - ...involving some sort of wordplay.
- Wall games - These are puzzles or activities that are printed on paper and posted on walls, for participants to do before and in between the parts of the main program.
- Table games - Puzzles or activities done while sitting at tables, before and in between the parts of the main program.
- Mixers - We start the festivities with some form of game that involves walking around and talking to different people; sometimes the whole group is solving one puzzle together, other times each individual has their own goal.
- Creative games - These games involve creativity and usually some silliness; pass-and-fold and fictionary variations are common. Often played earlier in the evening.
- Performance games - These games involve a small number of people playing at a time, with everyone else watching; they often involve giving clues under some set of constraints, for someone else to guess the answer. Often played later in the evening.
- Pencil-and-paper games - Games that typically have an emcee, and points to be scored by writing the right things down.
- Whole-Room Games - Not unlike the above, except for no pencil or paper.
- Paper-and-pencil puzzles - This category includes puzzles of many different types, but where you basically sit down with a puzzle on a sheet of paper and work on solving it, done individually or in groups of up to four people.
- Megagames - A special case of paper-and-pencil puzzles, typically involving many puzzles which connect at the end.
